The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the forthcoming animated feature.

The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.

A Cosmic Adventure Based on Beloved Titles

Much like the Wii console classics that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.

But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also includes nods to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers

The feature will welcome back of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.

Mario's Major Moment

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is planned to debut close to the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a major period for Mario and his friends.

Nintendo has three new games officially announced for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Premiere Date Announced

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
